Day What How Much Duration Pen Ink
  • 19 January

  • First draft of “The Yellow Oracle” (yes, still).
  • The bonfire of climax begins to collapse into the embers of denouement.
  • Typing of the second draft begins (because I left the thing I meant to work on at home).
  • Seven manuscript pages.
  • Nine pages.
  • 552 words
  • 35 min.
  • 55 min.
  • 35 min.

Also, I will mention now rather than later that tomorrow is Handwriting Day.  Other than setting down to write some things, I’d suggest a possible means of observance might be pursuing a new, custom-made pen; Shawn Newton is committing another fund-raiser upon the world, and since I can’t support it as much directly as I would like, I try to urge others to jump in.

Small Forgotten Things

Posted by Dirck on 24 October, 2014

Two items I dare not leave until next week, so we get a special Late Edition (please imagine an urchin in a flat cap shouting “Extry! Extry!” has just placed it in your hands).

First, a reminder of my all-singing, all-dancing* fountain pen tuning clinic at Regina’s own Paper Umbrella tomorrow from Noon until 4:30pm.  If you’re in or near the city and have a pen that needs a stern word or two, stop by and let me do my thing for you.  Free!

Second, an email I got which I reproduce here as a public service:

Hi everbody!

You’re getting this email because you’ve helped to support the Newton Pens Scholarship in the past.  If you don’t wish to receive any more emails like this in the future, please let me know and I’ll be sure to remove your email from this list

Definitely Not Here

Posted by Dirck on 10 October, 2013

As predicted, I’m not available today.  I suggest using the time to put an entry on the latest laudable raffle whereby Shawn Newton funds his habit of handing scholastic money to deserving youngsters– you might get a custom pen out of the effort.

If that doesn’t fill the time, there’s also this surprise; a Canadian wins the Nobel Prize for literature.  It has been a long time since something in the news stirred national pride in my bosom.

Today’s pen: Sheaffer Sovereign II
Today’s ink: Diamine Evergreen

Pens for Education

Posted by Dirck on 20 September, 2012

I’m on even more limited time constraints than usual today, so rather than my usual ramble, I will offer a rather more worthy alternative.  If you nip over to Newton Pens, you can read the proprietor’s commitment to apply the profits of his operation to the education of youngsters with good habits but poor prospects.  Having read, you may then perhaps consider the ordering of a pen.

Today’s pen:  Sheaffer 8C
Today’s ink: Diamine Majestic Blue
