Happy Belated Birthday

Posted by Dirck on 26 July, 2019

Since I still have my Apollo pen in battery, I feel like I can revisit last week’s big thing for this weeks film. And since I’m the boss of here, my vote counts for a lot.

The story here is a pretty good summary of Canadian national pride– “We helped immensely but invisibly in the background… because we kind of failed openly at something else! Hooray!

Today’s pen (also a repeat from last week): Retro 51 Tornado
Today’s ink: Herbin Lie de Thé

Fifty Year Footprint

Posted by Dirck on 20 July, 2019

I bet you all thought I’d missed it yesterday. But no!

Well, sort of. IT was in a transitional state yesterday, and I was also concerned because I had hoped something would make contact here that would allow me an observation of the auspicious day in my own particular idiom… which as of yesterday’s post, had not appeared, leading to being somewhat downcast.

But then…

Is that an enormous launch vehicle in your pocket…?

Yes, I went and got a pen specific to the day. The same model as I was using yesterday, but definitely thematic to today. It’s got a limited edition number! It also cost… what I will be paid, eventually, for a story recently accepted. This is not a wise item of conduct, I admit, but some of the purchase is going into the coffers of the Astronaut Scholarships Foundation. This doesn’t particularly help hopeful young spacefarers of my own nation, and yet I’m content. A rising tide floats all interplanetary craft, right?

FOOTPRINT!

Anyway, happy anniversary to humanity stepping on a different sphere. I’m sure you’ve all had enough of me rambling when the real party is well underway. Go frolic in the vicarious achievement!

Today’s pen: Apollo 11 (after a fashion)
Today’s ink: Private Reserve Supershow Blue (because what more spectacular show than a trip to the moon?)

Feeling Very Confined

Posted by Dirck on 14 September, 2018

I’m alone at The Regular Job today, which is a constraint on my spirit. A compression, even.   And since this…

…gives a sense of the work-load but suggests there’s others helping, I’m going to go with an educational film this week, about working in confinement.

Back to work, then. Row, row, row…

Today’s frantic pen: Pilot L-150MS
Today’s hectic ink: Herbin Vert Empire

Shooting the Moon

Posted by Dirck on 25 January, 2013

Well, I’m feeling better… but it’s Friday, so I’m going to persist with the slacking.  This is something I stumbled against recently, and had thought to save it for an anniversary posting in the summer.  However, I’ve got the link right in hand, it’s rather neatly reasoned, and there’s a splendid waxing moon lurking a few hours below the horizon urging me on to lunacy, so here’s a nice refutation of conspiracy theories one can really get behind:

I said to a friend who came across this about the same time that it’s rather more useful than my own reply to such foolishness: If the moon landing transmissions hadn’t been coming from the moon, the Soviets were quite capable of triangulation and would have blabbed.

Today’s pen: Sheaffer Statesman TM
Today’s ink: Herbin’s Vert Empire
