Hiatus, Hopefully No Hernia

Posted by Dirck on 21 June, 2013

My usual two week summer absence from The Regular Job commences at the closing bell today, and as is ever the case my looking in here is apt to get a little spotty.  Since I don’t have plans much more ambitious that “clean the eaves-trough” and “render dining table visible”, I may well get in here more than I usually do during such events.  However, since my son is also undistracted and will be working to drive my wife to distraction, I may well have other things on my plate than showing up here and venting brain-steam.

Today’s film, while reflecting a substantially more aggressive vacation plan, is suggestive of the energy requirements of just hanging out with the lad.

I find myself wondering occasionally, given that Bogart was under contract to Warner, whether that’s actually him doing his voice.  In this case, it would have been easy enough to lift the lines from another sound-track, but in “Slick Hare” he’s rather more interactive with Bugs and Elmer.

Speaking of Current Favourites

Posted by Dirck on 24 May, 2013

I was rattling about a current fascination with a new pen earlier in the week.  As part of the dressin’ up and goin’ out that constituted wedding anniversary observations yesterday, that pen did indeed find its way to my pocket.  The dressin’ up was a little over-grand, given the relatively lowly Italian-style chain we ended up at (lacking a sitter for the son), but habitual over-dress is a way of life for me.  Said restaurant held more delights for the boy than just lashings of pasta and the spectacle of his parents consuming a bottle of wine between them; he’s a precocious flirter-with of pretty waitresses of whom there were many, and someone in the semi-exposed kitchen kept breaking into extremely over-done fake opera singer noises.  My son, you see, is currently working at becoming word-perfect in all the works of Warners, and though a restaurant sing-along was a great idea.

The following cartoon is one he could reproduce, were the sound left off.  He’s getting pretty good at the different voices, too.

Old Discoveries

Posted by Dirck on 19 April, 2013

I’ve been a little over-earnest over the past week.  Let me address that with a good old-fashioned, slightly non-PC Merrie Melodie as this week’s Friday Fun Film:

Interestingly, the copyright date AND the date on the Youtube title are both right.  I wonder what the delay in release was?

Easter Bunny

Posted by Dirck on 28 March, 2013

It isn’t entirely Easter-shaped, but yesterday’s talk of head transplants and the transformative nature of the earlier pagan observance suggest this week’s (I’m not at work on) Friday film.  The title, strangely, is also appropriate

Happy egg-flinging rabbit/tomb-fleeing prophet day, everyone.

Uplifted

Posted by Dirck on 27 July, 2012

Spirits up, blood pressure down. Yesterday picked up immensely when I returned home to the happy antics of my son and all the moreso as he was pursuing his interest in Warner Brothers cartoons.  On the off chance that anyone looking in here needs a lift, and doesn’t mind the slightly racist notions of the late 1940s, here’s something to brighten the day:
