Yes, it’s meant to be a humorous song reference. It’s not dating myself, because it’s a popular song from well after my prime song-absorbing years.
Another dated reference is that episode of The Simpsons in which we’re given a vision to the future, and someone comments on the wrong turn taken by commercial aircraft designers, followed by what I think was a Caprioni multi-wing oddity.
I kind of agree with the sentiment that we’re missing out with our well-tested, computer-verified airplane shapes.
That’s just neat.
