Back To School Frolics

With the return of kids to school, I thought I might take a serious moment with the Friday Film, with a rather grim and protracted PSA of sorts, aimed at the scourge of driving while distracted by a device. The jurisdiction I’m in has recently enacted a law confiscating the vehicle of a repeat offender, which suggests that here at least the powers that be are starting to get slightly serious about the problem.
What is good about this film is that is shows the lasting effects of committing vehicular homicide on the person who did it; most car-texters don’t set out, after all, thinking, “I’m going to crush someone under my wheels,” and if faced with the possibility of doing so before the fact, they might well knock it off.
What isn’t mentioned here, although if you fight through the comments on Youtube you’ll find it; the failure of the device-addled driver to appreciate how hard the rest of us are working to not have an accident with them. Haven’t run into anyone while texting? This is a testament to the skills of those around you, not your own; you’re just lucky. So far.
