Speaking of Boring….

Posted by Dirck on 11 July, 2014

Today’s weather is exactly what I look for in summer– sunny, a very few clouds of the fluffy sort, and temperatures that fall sufficiently short of “rather too warm” to be indulged in for hours.  I believe when the workday is over I will coat myself in insect repellent and lie on the grass in my back yard until sundown.

Which, in a lateral manner, touches on today’s film; how’s your concentration when not being beat over the head with sensory stimulation?  I recently gave up on the newest version of The Great Gatsby as I found it was made by and for people who have trouble concentrating– speaking to friends later, I likened the experience of trying to watch it as ten minutes of being slapped in the eyes.  The film is a little test, to see how one responds to sitting and focusing on a single, not very interesting, thing.  Ready?

That lying on the grass will be accompanied by no iPad, iPod or other electronic stimulus (bar the simulated electrical effect produced by the droning of a million zillion hungry mosquitoes; it’s been a damp year).  I find it useful to be able to attend to things, and will over the weekend apply this skill to the careful re-shaping of some pens, none of which are mine, nor are they cheap.

Today’s pen: Sheaffer Sovereign II
Today’s ink: Herbin’s Lis de Thé
