Crank House

Posted by Dirck on 7 February, 2014

The old homestead was a krankhaus indeed– son too sick for school and wife too sick to look after him.  The up-side of not attending work and spending a day in a house full of virus and coma is that I got another four pages written on “Old 237”, which was gratifying.  On the down side, some client pens arrived, and I wasn’t able to do any more than establish that the box was intact.

…and although I don’t follow sports, I’m not submerged literally or figuratively, so I hear the Olympics are ramping up today.  In honour of that (although I find the current government of Russia not particularly worthy of honouring), today’s film:

People like me have a little difficulty telling the difference between this and the real thing.

WHAT:  First draft of short story “Old 237” (working title).

HOW MUCH: Two and a half pages of manuscript.

HOW LONG: About 40 min.– including some long thoughtful pauses in an artful “author thinking” pose, complete with the pen’s end resting against the upper lip.

DONE?: The good part is properly engaged; probably a couple of sessions away from the climatic moment.

Today’s ink: Diamine Ochre

WHAT:  First draft of short story “Old 237” (working title).

HOW MUCH: Two pages of manuscript, and a little checking of dates and terms on the webz (like a dummy, instead of leaving it ill-defined until after the shield-biting froth of initial creation has abated).

HOW LONG: about 40 min.

DONE?:  If I’m right about how this thing will end up, somewhere near the half-way mark.

Today’s ink: Jentle blue-black

Concession Speech

Posted by Dirck on 3 February, 2014

I’m having a moment of self-clarity, and it’s just as uncomfortable as one could expect.  My current powers of dashing letters off are such that I dare not commit to InCoWriMo even so far as I did last year.  The most I will manage is getting caught up with the current smallish backlog of smallish letters and sending an apologetic post-card off to someone to whom I owe a great deal of writing.  I’m unwilling to give up these little clumps of nearly-satisfactory fiction writing I’ve been engaging in (see previous comments re: momentum), and I somewhat doubt it would work anyway.

Today, for example, all the sutures on my skull have let go, and my brain is exposed to the air.  Or so it feels.  Before I subside into utter insensibility, though, let me encourage all with a whiff of spare time to mount the InCoWriMo barricades.  I seem to recall it was fun.
